Balance and discipline define this DFW real estate executive

This story is part of the Dallas Business Journal’s 2019 CFO of the Year Awards program. Brant Brown is one of 14 honorees for 2019. The honorees will be highlighted at an awards event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Fairmont Dallas.

Brant Brown currently balances his CFO and COO roles for real estate development company Westmount Realty Capital, which helps him stay involved in his dual passions of real estate and finance.

“As a young person, I had always wanted to be in real estate,” Brown said. “I had a passion for buildings, spaces and the importance real estate plays in our lives.”

He said keeping discipline and only chasing the deals that make sense forWestmount is the biggest financial challenge right now. “We’re in a market where you need to work two to three times harder to achieve half the success many groups experienced from 2012 to 2017.”

While Brown said there is an obvious focus on younger generations, he says many companies aren’t focused enough on the impact baby boomers will have on the real estate market.

“With the often-cited ‘10,000 retirees’ every day, this is a significant factor that many don’t spend enough time talking about and considering,” Brown said.
