For over four decades, Austin Street Center has been a beacon of hope supporting and providing the necessary resources to transition people out of homelessness and restore independence. Beyond meeting basic needs, Austin Street Center is committed to helping clients regain their independence and find a permanent place to call home. Their rapid re-housing program is one of the largest in Texas and their teams have worked tirelessly to adopt integrated housing solutions to provide almost twice the amount of case management sessions than in previous years. Austin Street Center’s dedication to making an impactful and lasting difference in our Dallas community is what makes them the perfect partner for Westmount.
To kickstart our partnership, Westmount hosted a Donation Drive providing Welcome Home Baskets to ASC clients who are transitioning out of homelessness and into permanent housing. Welcome Home Baskets are filled with essential supplies and personal care items needed in any new home. Together our team provided $3,500 worth of in-kind donations supporting 10 individuals with a fresh start. With the help of volunteers and donors, Austin Street Center is able to serve thousands of clients as they seek safe shelter in the short term and permanent housing in the long term. We are thankful and proud of our Westmount team for their gifts of time and resources. For us, this initiative highlights the profound impact that can be achieved when we are united with a common purpose.
We had an overwhelming turnout for our first service event day at Austin Street Center with 41 volunteers! This day marked the beginning of many service initiatives to come for Westmount & Austin Street Center. Our team started out the day with a high energy breakfast service and popped back over to the kitchen for lunch service too. Being on the ‘front lines’ at mealtime allowed us to connect with ASC clients more closely. We were also able to spend time in the donation and clothing rooms preparing bags for intake, assisting with laundry, distributing clothing request orders and sorting donations.
Austin Street Center relies on volunteers to help support our unsheltered neighbors during their greatest time of need. In 2023, ASC saw 12,977 volunteers with a total of 17,184 volunteer hours. The total value of these volunteer hours is equivalent to $546,451!
