Things will be great …

DALLAS MORNING NEWS

Maybe it’s too early to call the renaissance in downtown Dallas a boom.

But if all the projects on the drawing boards get going, the central business district won’t be the sleepy neighborhood it was in the 1990s much longer.

There have already been some big changes. Nine major redevelopments are under way downtown, and eight more deals are in the planning stage.

That’s on top of the dozen or so residential and retail projects that have been completed in the core during the last few years.

Currently, there are about 1,700 residential units downtown – everything from bare-bones apartments to luxury condos.

The number of homes will more than double in the next few years if all the proposed projects come to pass.

And retail space should also get a lift when new Main and Commerce street projects are finished.

Here’s a look at what’s going on downtown.
