About International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is an annual event celebrated globally on March 8th. The day has its roots in the early 1900s when women began to rally for their rights in different parts of the world. The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
The day was initially known as International Working Women’s Day and was meant to bring attention to the issues of women’s rights, including their right to vote, work, and receive an education. Over time, International Women’s Day has become a platform to celebrate women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, as well as to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges and inequalities women continue to face.
International Women’s Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world, and it serves as a reminder of the progress made in the fight for gender equality, while also highlighting the work that still needs to be done to ensure that women everywhere have equal rights and opportunities.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we are excited to highlight some of the remarkable achievements of the talented women at Westmount. Julie Butticarlo, Senior Director – Asset Management, was awarded as one of Connect Commercial Real Estate Texas 2022 Women in Real Estate in recognition of her impact and leadership at Westmount. Additionally. Barbara Georgakis, Senior Controller, was named a finalist for D Magazine’s D CEO 2023 Financial Executive Awards. Barbara was also featured in an interview with Authority Magazine, where she discussed five things to thrive and succeed as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
Furthermore, we would like to recognize the outstanding contributions of Ginny Goldsmith, Senior Director – Property Management, who was selected as one of the mentors for Dallas Business Journal’s Mentoring Monday event. Ginny’s expertise and experience offered valuable insights and advice to attendees, empowering and uplifting women in leadership roles.
